Basically, poker is a card game where players attempt to make the best hand possible from a set of five cards. The player with the best hand wins the pot. It is usually played by a group of people around a circular or oval table. Typically, a player uses green or red poker chips.

The first round of betting involves only the simplest of bets. The ante is usually a small bet, usually between $1 and $5. The player with the highest ranking poker combination wins the pot.

The best hand is considered a five card straight, or five cards in sequential order. The best hand is also the best hand to beat. A pair of aces beats a pair of queens, while a pair of kings beats a pair of jacks.

A “backdoor flush” is achieved by hitting needed cards on the turn and river. The ace of spades is a “wonder card” and is also considered a “wow card” in some games.
